Dowis played four-hand works for many years with her late husband, Samuel Lipman, a well-known pianist and music critic.

Playing music keeps her sharp, Dowis said. Her doctor recently gave her a brain test as part of her regular checkup.

"About halfway through, he stopped," she said. "He told me, 'You have the brain of a 20-year-old.'"
