Uncle Fred was in the Navy, Gunner's Mate 3rd Class, during WW II and assigned to the destroyer-class, US Leutze DD 481 which was commissioned March 4, 1944 at the Puget Sound Navy Yard, Bermington, Washington which ultimately fought in the great Battle of Leyte.
