      MISS HAMILTON IS JULY BRIDE OF PAUL SLOAN
      Miss Evelyn A. Hamilton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hamilton,
      3950 Alameda Place, became the bride of Paul Ruffner Sloan, son of Mr. and Mrs.
      J.D. Snow of Chula Vista yesterday at 4 p.m. in the home of the bride's parents.
      Dr. W.J. Sherman of the First Methodist church officiated. The home was appointed
      with a profusion of pastel gladioli and greenery.
      The bride was smartly attired in a white sharkskin suit with navy blue
      accessories, the bridegroom wearing a Palm Beach suit. Following a buffet
      supper Mr. and Mrs. Sloan left for the north. On their return they will reside in
      Chula Vista.
      The wedding climaxes a State College romance. The bride studied
      also at the University of California school of Agriculture at Davis.

    • Paul Sloan was born in Arkansas, August 17, 1915 - there are conflicting Birth Certificates - the other dates his birth as August 12, 1915, and puts the place of birth as between Noland and Black Rock, Arkansas, in Randolph County, Township of Roanoke.

      Both Certificates are from the State of Arkansas, Bureau of Vital Statistics - The Certificate was signed by L.A. Sloan (Lucian Sloan), stating that he was an uncle of Baby Paul. On the 2nd Birth Certificate it says his birth was attended by Dr. W.W. Hatcher and Jane Sloan Gibson, his Aunt who was from Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. This Birth Certificate was signed August 20th, 1940. After his mother divorced, the family came to California about 1924. Paul and Evelyn met in college, married in San Diego, CA settled in Chula Vista. There they had their only child Katherine Claire Sloan.

      Paul went to work for Convair and most of the men and women did in the war times. Later he bought a ranch 60 acre ranch in Spring Valley, CA - there was 50 acres of citrus, which was a full time job.

      Paul at 30 was taken into the Army and served in San Antonio, Texas. After ranching for a few more years, Paul had was cranking a tractor, the crank slipped and hit him in the forehead. He was had surgery to seal the brain sack. After his recovery, he swore he would never do another day's hard labor again.

      Paul and Evelyn sold the ranch and moved to the Grossmont area in La Mesa, CA. He became a underground sewer and water contractor, and was well known throughout the 1950 - 1970's in the San Diego area. The company was known as Taylor & Sloan, Inc. Evelyn was the bookkeeper for the business which employed about 150 plus employees. Some of the last job's he was known for was the 805 Freeway and the Coronado Cay's in the San Diego area.

      When he retired, he and Evelyn moved to Potrero, where they had a large ranch of 1100 acres with two houses on it. The subdivided some of the ranch, Paul and Evelyn enjoyed raising Angus cattle, and all around ranch living.

      Around 1980, Paul and Evelyn moved to Alpine,CA, as Paul's health was failing, and lived there until he passed away on June 23, 1983. Evelyn passed away October 2nd, 1997.

      Paul's ashes were scattered at sea off the coast of San Diego, CA

      NOTE: On a found genealogy chart it states that Paul Sloan, Jr. died Abt. 1936 in Noland AR, Lawrence Co. when actually he had come to California with his mother Katherine (Kate) Sloan with Kate's brother's and sister's. Personal knowledge of daughter, Kay Butcher.

      BIRTH: 2 Birth Certificates and 1 affidavit of Birth (all have different dates of birth) in possession of Kay Butcher - daughter.

      DEATH: Death Certificate - San Diego Co., CA in possession of Kay Butcher.

      BURIAL: Telophase Society - Records in possession of Kay Butcher.
