Grandma Chisam. What a great lady. You didn't mess with her. She had a strong grip, something she passed on to my dad, for sure. Her parents were from Finland and migrated to the states in the late 1800's.
She was born in North Dakota and grew up in the Dakota's, raising her children there and in Minnesota.
The family eventually moved to Arkansas where I remember traveling to see her in the late 70's. She would tell me, "I don't know where my life has gone". "One minute, I was a little girl, the next minute I'm an old lady".
She would show me a picture of my grandpa when he was young and talk about how handsome he was.
She listened to Finnish Polka records and could still speak the language some.
I remember she had a large collection of salt and pepper shakers and liked watching "rasslin'" on TV.
In her last days, she went to live with her daughter in Washington state where she passed away. She is buried in Washington.
