Our Mom (and Oma), Hildegarde "Helen" Ernst Hennessee, passed away on September 22, 2017, as she had wished, at home in the care of her family.
Mom was born in Lodz, Poland. She and her mother escaped foreign invasion when she was only 14 years old. They immigrated to Bavaria to live with family until mom met her future husband, Andrew "Jack" Hennessee (predeceased) while she worked as a translator at the Air Force base at Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Mom immigrated to the U.S. shortly thereafter and always expressed pride in becoming an American citizen.
Mom and Dad were married in Biloxi, MS in 1952. Together they followed his career back and forth across the country and welcomed 2 daughters. Mom worked as a secretary at West Chester College in Pennsylvania before the family returned to the Bay Area, where she served as the Machine Shop secretary at NASA / Ames Research Center, Moffett Field for over 20 years.
Mom was entirely independent and sharp-minded her entire life. She loved to travel and took our family on trips to many countries. She was a wonderful photographer, always taking beautiful photos of her adventures. She loved her fruit trees, roses and lilacs in the garden, but first and foremost she was fiercely devoted to her family. We were blessed by her care.
She is survived by daughters Patti Hennessee (husband Don Carlisle) and Peggy Hennessee, her grandchildren Remy Hennessee, Jack Hennessee, and Joseph & James Hennessee-Bresett, former sons-in-law Richard Bresett and Patrick Campbell, her nieces Sybil Arevalo, Renee Jarosz and their families, nephew Carlos Jarosz and his family, many cousins including the Hennessees, Jacksons, Lisicic's and Wackers, and dear friends Richard, Ingrid, Marie, Louise and others.
She will rest with her husband Jack at Alta Mesa Cemetery. A private memorial will be held at 1:00pm on October 14, 2017. Family and friends may contact Patti or Peggy for details. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the American Cancer Society.
We will always love you Mom!
