      Is there anyone out there who knows anything of Moses Pleasant Ward?? He is supposedly my 4greatgrandfathers brother, both born in Ireland. I believe they had 3 other brothers, all born in Ireland. My 4greatgrandfather, John Henry Ward, Jr. came to America, and started his family there, marrying an unknown lady, they had (supposedly) 5 daughters and 8 sons, one of which was my 3greatgrandfather, Henry E. Ward, who married Margaret Jarrett. Now, Moses was supposedly a Methodist Circuit Rider Preacher. Moses was probably born abt. 1780-1790?? Any help would be appreciated. I would like to prove this mans existence....Also, if you would like to visit my webpage, the url is http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/7108

      David,

      Thank you for sending the Ward information. Some of the people mentioned could be siblings of my great-grandfather, Henry Ward, but I am not sure.

      Henry E. Ward (never found him listed with the middle initial) was supposedly born 20 May 1814. Therefore, he would have been about 35 when the 1850 census was taken. He could have been with his birth family; or he could have been working for someone and living with them; or he could have been on his own. I found him listed as a blacksmith in at least one census and as a farmer in others. Some say he was born in Tennessee and some North Carolina.

      Henry Ward and Margaret Jarrett Ward m. 12 Oct 1851 and had the following children (according to my aunt):

      1. Steven Franklin Ward b. 30 Aug 1852 - d. 16 Sep 1852;

      2. Mary Ann Ward b. 11 Sept 1853 - d. unknown - m. E. Taylor Low(e) 18 May 1871 in Warren Co., TN, by B.P. Jarrett, J.P.;

      3. James Barney Ward (apparently was mostly called Barney) b. 17 May 1855 - d. 21 Feb 1917 - m. (1st) 17 Oct 1878 C.C. Simon in Warren Co., TN by S.M. Hennessee, J.P. - m. (2nd) ____ August 1887 Milley (Permelia, Amelia) Passon in Warren Co., TN by S.C. Jackson, M G. He and his family were in Madison Co. AL in 1900 and 1910;

      4. Thomas White Ward (my grandfather) b. 24 Feb 1859 - d. 4 Feb 1938 (in Scurry Co., TX) - m. (1st) L. (Laura?) E. Drake 14 May 1882 (may have been married in Kentucky) - m. (2nd) Ida E. Barnes 23 Dec 1894 in Navarro Co. TX;

      5. David Calhoun (Calhoon) Ward b. 20 Apr 1863 - d. 25 Dec 1875 (in 1870 census his name has been interpreted as Dora in one publication);

      6. Samuel Smart Ward b. 24 Jun 1865 - d. 28 Dec 1835(?) - never married. He as listed as register - Warren Co., TN in 1900 and he and his mother were in Madison Co, AL in 1910;

      7. William Henry Ward b. 30 Jan 1867 (maybe) - d. 27 Nov 1944 (Lindale, Smith Co., TX) - m. (1st) Mollie Earls in Warren Co, TN 21 Feb 1887 by A.C. Myers, JP - m. (2nd) Arkey (Arka) Hayes (dau of John L.Hayes) in Warren Co., TN 3 Nov 1899;

      8. Margaret M. (Maggie) Ward b. 31 Oct 1871 - d. 11 Feb 1915 ? - m. Thomas Hillis in Warren Co., TN 16 Feb 1887 by B.P. Jarrett, J.P. (Date of death for Margaret M. may have been for Margaret her mother?)

      In the Wards you listed, the following names were used that were also used in my lineage: James; Lucy; Thomas; Jefferson; and Wesley.

      I have wondered if the middle names of the boys might be clues to maiden names of the mothers of Henry and Margaret - Franklin, White, Calhoun, and Smart could be surnames.

      Since B. P. (Barney) Jarrett officiated at both daughters' weddings, I wondered if he might have been a brother or uncle of Margaret Jarrett Ward. Barney Jarrett was in Giles Co. TN in 1850 and then later in Warren Co.

      Thanks for your input.
