Correction and update to my 10 June 2005 post :
Elmore C Hayes was my gg-grandfather and I now believe he died about 1889 in Texas and was buried there (maybe Kaufman County, Texas and not in Warren County, TN) but have not found proof of that information to date. However I am still looking for any information regarding Elmore and either of his wives (Laura M. Dodson and Ellen Wiseman Hennessee) and his brother, Calhoun Archibald Hayes or Archibald Calhoun Hayes. They were both listed as deserters from the 35th Tennessee Infantry and left at the same time around January 1864. I have learned that the last Winter during the war when they are said to have deserted, things were very bad for this regiment because of unbearably frigid weather and lack of supplies and even clothing for the men. Calhoun Hayes was married to R. Elizabeth Hennessee on 27 Dec 1883 in Warren County and he died 18 Jan 1907 and is buried in Smyrna Cemetery in Warren county. I would love to hear from anyone with information about Elmore and/or Calhoun Hayes or their wives and any photos would be priceless.
