      Ed Hennessee

      Funeral for Ed Hennessee, 70, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Kriss, Baptist minister, Cache, and the Honorable Abe Deutschendorf, Lawton, officiating.

      Mr. Hennessee died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, in Washington, D.C.

      Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Becker Funeral Home.

      He was born May 13, 1934, in Washington, D.C., to Eugene Lionel and Mary Jane Fielding Hennessee. He graduated from high school in Parkersburg, W.Va. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a Navy ROTC scholarship, and earned a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics in 1957. Drafted into the Army, he was stationed at Fort Sill from 1957-1959. He married Edna Haggard on June 21, 1958, in Lawton. He taught math at Tomlinson Junior High School from 1959 until 1963 and Lawton High School from 1964 until 1968. He was named Oklahoma State Teacher of the Year in 1967. He also taught night classes at Fort Sill and Cameron University. He earned his MA in Education from Southeastern State College in 1969 and completed additional graduate work at the University of Oklahoma.

      In administration for Lawton Public Schools, he served as assistant principal at Lawton High School (1969-1973); Director of Federal Programs (1974-1981); Director of Business Operations (1982-1984); Associate Administrator of Fiscal Services (1985-1988); Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services (1989-1993); Assistant Superintendent for Research and Development (1994); and Assistant Superintendent of General Operations (1995-1996). After retiring from Lawton Public Schools in 1996, he continued working as executive director of the Oklahoma Association Serving Impacted Schools and the National Council of Impacted Schools.

      Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, JoLynn Godwin and Brian, Grapevine, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul Hennessee and Dr. Rebecca Weis; and a granddaughter, Chloe Elizabeth, all of New York City; a son, Dr. David Hennessee, Cayucos, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene Hennessee and Dreama, Enon, Ohio; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane Horrell and Reginald, Wilmington, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, David Hennessee and Reta, Parkersburg, W.Va.; 13 nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.

      Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
