I have finally found my Cagles are not related to the Cagles from Leonhart's line. They came to America 200 years later. I have from the 1910 census of Warren Co. TN.

- Seeking information on the parentage of Edmond S. Cagle b 1865 Nashville, TN d. 1912 lived in Warren County, TN. There is a story in the family that he was the child of poor immigrants and was traded for a bushel of apples to Preston Cagle. He is living with Preston Cagle (1831-1916) in the 1870 census. Any lookups that might help would be appreciated. I have the census records.
I had thought possibly obituaries might give some information on this connection. [6]
- I am looking for more information about a person named Edmond S. Cagle. I have hit a brick wall as there are stories in the family about him being adopted but I have no records indicating this. If he wasn't adopted then his birth mother is someone I also have very little information on.
The subject of this post is:
Edmond S. Cagle- Birth Sept 1 1865 in Nashville, Tennessee
Death 1912 in Orange Springs, Marion, Florida but he was a resident of Warren County, TN and might have an obituary from there
Married first Sophia Koehler and second Mary or "Mollie" Rogers
His father is: Preston A. Cagle- Birth: September 6, 1831 in McMinnville, Warren, Tennessee
Death: Oct 5,1916 in Irving College, Warren, Tennessee
Married first Rosana or Roxana Haynes and second Sarah Nunley
His mother:
Sousanah, Roxana or possibly Rosana Cagle (Haynes/Haines) also listed as Rose-
Birth: 1843 in Tennessee which would make her 13 at marriage.
Birth is based on a census record in 1860.
The name Sousanah Haynes shows up on her marriage license with Preston. The name Roxana is listed on the 1860 census record in Sumner County, Tn. The name Mary Rose Haines is in a history of Cagle families that mentions Preston's first wife.Other than the 1860 census year, Preston lived in Warren County, TN and his marriage also took place there.
Death: Before 1871 when Preston married a second time. Some people have her listed as dying in 1866 though I have no idea where the information comes from.
There is a 'Bosana' Haynes daughter of G.W. George Washington Haynes and his wife Helen Reeder though she is living with her family again in 1870 listed as Rosana Kagh at 24 years old. I also found a headstone for a Rosanna A. Haynes, Born Dec. 24, 1844, Died Nov. 8, 1881 that couldn't possibly be her but the name is popping up again and I have no idea of the connection.
I am at my wits end with this brick wall. There's a story that Edmond and his wife Mollie (Mary Isabel Rogers Cagle) traveled to Florida and he died there and was buried practically along the road before she made her way back home. How inconvenient for me since a death record for Edmond might provide some clue to his parentage.
I don't even know for sure that Edmond was a blood relation to Preston. I was told a family story that he was the son of poor immigrants who traded him for bushels of apples. I have heard from other Cagle that they had heard the same thing about their female relative. The only thing that I have on that that might indicate he was adopted was his Nashville birth.
The help I am looking for is that some experienced researchers would know where to look to find something concrete. The state's vital records don't date that far back and there are no adoption records that early either. I would happily hire a researcher or pay for records if they exist but I'm not aware of sources that might give evidence.
Outside of that, any tips on what to look for or personal stories of this family might be helpful :)
Thanks for reading this!
