    Alva J. Byars (1920-2012)
    McMinnville resident and Warren County native Alvie J. Byars, age 91, was born September 16, 1920 and died May 4, 2012 at Raintree Manor Nursing Home. A broadcast engineer and lifelong member of the Church of Christ where he served as minister of the Salem Church of Christ for several years, he was the son of the late Samuel Hand and Nancy Rankhorn Byars. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delma Smith Byars and a son, Larry Price Byars.

    Mr. Byars was a combat veteran having served with the United States Navy Submarine Service in the South Pacific Theater. He was a Ham Radio enthusiast and a locally well-known broadcast engineer.

    He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Clara Byars of McMinnville, Dwain and Barbara Byars of Franklin, TN and Bob and Debbie Byars of North Little Rock, AR and nine grandchildren.

    At Mr. Byars' request, all services will be private.

      Full military honors will be administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Meals on Wheels both c/o High's. [2]
