      Alpha Lee Easterly

      Oct. 12, 1915 - May 17, 2005

Alpha Lee Easterly, affectionately known as ća€œGrannyća€ or ća€œThe Pie Lady,ća€ was born October 12, 1915, in Azle, Texas, to William and Mable Hennessee Baker.

Her family moved a lot as she was growing up until she settled in Texas.

She was baptized at an early age, and was a member of the Church of Christ for many years where she made a large donation for a new church building.

Alpha had a paralyzing stroke in 1988, but still kept attending services until her health declined and she was no longer able to move easily.

Alpha married Clarence Peter Easterly on January 12, 1934, in Kaufman County, Texas.

They lived together in Kemp, until later moving to Victoria.

The family moved to the Los Angeles, California, area in 1940.

Alpha worked during the war years in an aircraft factory.

Later she worked as an aide in the Hawthorne, California, school district.

Alpha returned to Texas in about December 1970 and settled in Bay City, where she cared for her mother until her death.

Alpha Lee Easterly was a devoted and strict Christian, mother and grandmother.

Alpha is survived by: her three brothers, A.C. Baker, Guy ća€œBusterća€ Baker and Sam Baker; four children, Clarence and wife Patricia of Dallas, Oregon, Carol McMain and husband Larry, of Bay City, Texas, Marshall and wife Linda of Newport News, Virginia, and Glenn and wife Elizabeth of Thornton, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild in Salem, Oregon.

Alpha was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband of 44 years, Clarence Peter Easterly; sister, Ermadoyle Volkmer; and brother, Franklin ća€œBunkća€ Baker.

A visitation was held from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2005 at the Bay City Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2005, at the Nichols Street Church of Christ, with Joe Wrape officiating.

Interment was held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Victoria.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Mike Alsop, David Alsop, Matthew Ramsey, Glenn Easterly, Jr., Steven Rothans, and Gary Rooth, Jr.

Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.
