Notes |
- Lavada Cooley Cantrell, 88, a long-time resident of Oak Ridge, died in Cumming, Ga., where she had been living with her daughter since September 2001.
She was the youngest and last living sibling of 10 brothers and sisters. She moved to Oak Ridge in 1945, when her husband, Thomas Cantrell, began work at Union Carbide. He died in 1980.
Mrs. Cantrell was born Sept. 14, 1916, in Warren County. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker, a nurturing and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved all little children and was a true neighbor.
Her famous fresh-baked coconut cake was enjoyed by many. Also a good seamstress, she once made aprons for the old Mayflower Restaurant, but was never one to boast about herself, no one ever knew it.
Mrs. Cantrell is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Jim Dill of Cumming, Ga., and Beverly and Bill Claunch of Madison, Ala.; four grandchildren, Tommy Dill, Kathy Dill, Sharon Gebo Alexander, and Grey Dill, all in the Atlanta area, and Billy Claunch and Paula Claunch, both of Union Grove, Ala.; six great-grandchildren, Michelle Dill, James Dill, Josh Dill, Meghan Gebo, and Maureen Gebo, all in the Atlanta area, and James Claunch and Henry Rye Claunch, both of Union Grove.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. David White officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
