  • Notes
    • From Marilyn Houser:

John Walker born in 1748 from Dan River section of Virginia originally. John migrated to NC by way of Guilford Co., NC where he and Ursley Covington obtained a marriage bond on February 3, 1773. They later moved to Rutherford Co., NC where they lived on Sandy Run Creek til they both died. John died January 13, 1820.

      Notes from Marilyn Houser:

John Walker, the first, and so far as is known at present, the only member of his family to come to the western part of North Carolina, was born on the Dan River in Virginia near Danville, about the year 1748. This is Pittsylvanie Co., VA. His migration from Virginia to old Tryon Co., NC was by way of Guilford Co., NC where he remained long enough to marry Urcilla Covington on Februaryh 3, 1773. He then came on to old Tryon Count and settled on the middle fork of Sandy Run Creek here he was granted 640 acres of land by the King of England.

They lived at this location until they both died. John died January 13, 1820. Family tradition says that some of the DePriest and Covington families also made the move to Tryon County along with John Walker, but this has not been verified.

John and Urcilla Covington Walker were the parents of eight sons and four daughters, all born in old Tryon and/or Rutherford County, all born 1801 or earlier.

The following information was given to Marilyn by Sallie Johnston who is not online:
