- McMinnville resident and Warren County native Everett Ray Byars, 77, died April 14 at his home after an extended illness.
A retired teacher with Warren County High School and a member of Smyrna Church of Christ, he served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
The son of Sam and Nancy Rankhorn Byars, he was preceded in death by daughter, Wanda Faye Frye; and brothers, Jess and Woodrow Byars.
He is survived by his wife, Walene Byars; son, David Byars of Virginia; grandchildren, Rance Frye of Taft, Jennifer Frye Daigle of Madison, Wis., Linus Byars of Ft. Hood, Texas, Justin Frye of Nashville and Ceseley Byars LaPere of Dover, Del.; five great-grandchildren; and brothers, Alvie and I.D. Byars, both of McMinnville.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. today at High's Chapel with Ernest Laws and Johnny Clayton officiating. Burial will follow at Smyrna Cemetery with military graveside rites administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Memorials may be made to Lazarus House Hospice or Doctors Group.
High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
