      POWER OF ATTORNEY: 1 Nov 1841 Elizabeth Iler (late Cooksey) of Ohio county, Kentucky appointed John James Cooksey her true lawful attorney in law and fact (Ohio county, Kentucky, Deed book I, p.2)

      This is to certify that the rites of matrimony were solemnized between the above bound John Raley and Elizabeth Iler by me on the 29th of September 1843. Given under my hand, T.G. Ward, M.G. (Ohio county, Kentucky, Marriage Book F, no. 184).

      Elizabeth Smith, born Jan. 1800, and James Cooksey were married in 1817. As newlyweds, Elizabeth and James rode horseback to Ohio County, Kentucky along with 87 persons, 14 horses, a chest of gold coins and a wedding dress from Europe embroidered with pearls. Both were wealthy members of the old Virginia aristocracy. James Cooksey died in 1828, drowned in a logging accident.

      This 8th day of March 1824, I do hereby give unto James Cooksey and Elizabeth Cooksey his wife and their heirs &tc a negro girl named Mary for to have and to hold during his life and afterwards to Elizabeth Cooksey and her bodily heirs &tc I do hereby ack. this to my hand and set in the presents of these men: John H. Hampton, David Clark. (signature Thomas Smith). Ohio Count Sct. county court clerk office 6th of Augt 1824, the above deed of gift was proved to be the act & deed of Thomas Smith a party thereto by the oaths of John H. Hampton, one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and recorded.

      Nicholas Earp and others give bond of John Cooksey, guardian of minor children of James Cooksey dec'd (Margaret Mariah and James Cooksey, minors); Ohio County KY Order Book 5 p.409, 1 Nov 1841.

      MARRIAGE: Ohio County KY marriages, Nicholas P. Earp married Virginia Ann Cooksey on 27 Jul 1840; J.H. Blaine bondsman, Rev. J.G. Ward, minister.

      POWER OF ATTORNEY: 1 Nov 1841 Virginia Ann Earp, wife of Nicholas Earp, of Ohio county, Kentucky gave said Nicholas Earp power of attorney for all matters including the disposition of lands she inherited from her grandfather Phillip Cooksey in the state of Virginia witnessed by William Daniel and L.D. Earp (Ohio county, Kentucky, Deed book I, p.2).

      md 1) a Mr. DANIEL about 1853; she was widowed by 1860 and had at least 2 children:

      Steven, I couldn't help but notice that your last name was Dunn. Do you know anything about a Theodore Dunn b. ca 1859 in KY? He married a Sudie. He was listed in the 1910 Ohio Co. Census as a barber at McHenry. I am looking for information for a friend of mine. Thanks. Shirley
