      EDGAR MAGNESS DIES IN WEST

Edgar Magness, president of the old State Trust company and director of the State Bank & Trust company of Nashville, died Monday morning in Livingstone, Montana, as stated in a telegram received in this city Monday. He had resigned as president of the trust company last January on
account of poor health, and going west to seek recuperation, had been traveling there since. Death came while he was making preparations to go on a three or four-weeks camping trip in Yellowstone National park.

His remains will be brought to McMinnville, Tenn., for burial, where his father was engaged in the banking business and where Wm. H. Magness, his brother and only living relative resides. Edgar Magness was born in Smithville, DeKalb county, Tenn., his father moving to McMinnville shortly after, and was a comparatively young man when death came, being in his 47th year. He was a man of fine intellect, was well read, an excellent French scholar, and had attended Harvard University. A former president of a bank in Attala, Ala., he had come to Nashville later to be cashier of the
City Savings Bank. Having organized the State Trust company in 1904, he had been president of it until last January, when poor health, brought on by stomach trouble, made it necessary for him to resign.
