      Dannye Ray George, 67

Dannye Ray George, 67, of McMinnville died Sept. 29 at Raintree Manor of complications from Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia. He was born Oct. 29, 1947 in Detroit, Mich. He was the eldest son of Warden Hulan and Arlene (Deaton) George of McMinnville.

He spent his early childhood in the Madison Heights area of Detroit, where he enjoyed playing baseball in the street, listening to Detroit Tigers baseball games, and occasionally teasing his younger sister, Janice. Dannye move to Centertown community with his family in 1959. At age 14, Dannye met Jeanette Staton, who became the love of his life. They were married Dec. 21. 1968 in McMinnville. After graduating from Centertown High School in 1965, Dannye attended Freed-Hardeman University until 1967. Dannye then graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in Memphis in 1970. He loved to reminisce about his time at all three schools, having made lasting friendships that brought him joy throughout his entire life. Later in 1970, he and Jeanette purchased his favorite car, a 1969 AMC Javelin, and welcome their daughter, Christa. Dannye was a community pharmacist at Big K, Fred's, and Super D pharmacies in McMinnville, where his customers affectionately call him "Dan-O" and "Doc." He frequently delivered prescriptions to his customers on his way home frome work and opened the pharmacy after hours to fill their prescriptions in times of need. Dannye spent the last years od his career at Fred's pharmacy in Woodbury, retiring after 38 years due to his declining health.
Despite once bending a golf club around a tree in frustration, he enjoyed playing golf with brothers Bobby and Alan, brothers-in-law Charles and Tylee, and father-in-law Fred. A passionate UT sport fan, he loved watching football games on television with family and turning off the sound so he could listen to John Ward's play-by-play on the radio. Dannye loved music, especially that of Elvis Presley, and could often be seen playing air guitar in front of the stereo. He also enjoyed "talking pharmacy" with his sister, Connie, and telling jokes and stories with his brother Gary. Most of all, he loved spending time with Jeanette, Christa, son-in-law, Chris, and his granddaughter, Zoe Raye.

Dannye was a member of Centertown Church of Christ and the Tennessee Pharmacists Association.
