Notes |
- I was born on the family farm in Wolf Creek Community, DeKalb Co., TN in what is the old 16th District of DeKalb County. This was just south of where my fourth great grandfather, Prettyman Jones, settled in Buffalo Valley in 1804.
My ancestors were all in Tennessee before 1830, and my Jones line was in Tennessee before it became a state in 1796.
I am a graduate of DeKalb County High School, Smithville, TN, and I received a BS from Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville, TN. I entered the United States Army on 18 November 1963 as Second Lt Armor. Since my army days I have lived in Columbia, SC, Orlando, FL and have lived in Jacksonville, FL since August 1976. I still consider Tennessee my home, and will move back there someday. I work for large national company.
I have served as Scoutmaster of Troop 317 for 4 1/2 years. Scoutmaster and Course Director North Florida Council (NFC) Junior Leader (Brownsea) Training Course, 1983. Scoutmaster, Troop 13, National Jamboree, 1985. Served on Staff NFC Woodbadge Courses 1982-87, 1989, 1990 and Scoutmaster and Course Director Woodbadge Course SE556 in 1991. Dean Master Program NFC College of Commissioner Science 1988 & 1989 and Chancellor 1991. Served as Program Chairman Riverbend District, NFC, 1984-1986, Riverbend District Commissioner Oct 1986-Jan 1988, Division Commissioner First Coast Division, NFC, Oct 1988-Jan 1992, Activities Chairman, NFC, Jan 1988-Jan 1992. Presented District Award of Merit by NFC 1982, and Silver Beaver, 1986, National Council, BSA.
I became in interested in genealogy when I was twelve years old, and it has remained a life long interest. I was very fortunate to still have great great aunts and uncles still living when I began my research. I am member of Upper Cumberland Genealogical Society, Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society, Virginia Genealogical Society, Delaware Genealogical Society, and National Genealogical Society. I have attended National Genealogical Society conferences in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1993 and 1996. I have written articles for Upper Cumberland Genealogical Society, Warren County Genealogical Society, and Delaware Genealogical Society Journal. I served as Floor Manager of the 1993 National Genealogical Society Conference.
Some personal information. I am 6 feet tall, 190 lbs, blond with blue eyes and very fair complexion, so altho I live in Florida I try to stay out of sun. I love to read especially history of America before 1870, Tennessee history, and historical fiction. Best book I ever read was Green Mansions. I love variety of music but like best oldes rock. I love ABBA especially "I have a Dream", Elvis, "Sweet Caroline", "California Girls", Fats Domino, "Last Dance by Floyd Cramer, and many more. I have variety of interests including gardening especially flowers and conifers. I also like to do wood carving. Watch my 12 year old practice and play baseball. Walks in woods on my land especially in Spring when wildflowers are blooming and in the fall. My new passion is my pickup a 2002 Ford Ranger. Never have I liked a vehicle better, and growing up on farm never thought I would own a pickup. Click on thumbnails below to see "my baby", ha.
