  • Notes
    • Mama King`s mother, Sara Carolyn "Lucy Caroline" Hoge, died appx 1 month after giving birth to Mama King from complications with childbirth. Mama King was allergic to penicillan, had high blood pressure, sinus and inner ear problems as documented by her medical paperwork.

She is listed on the 1900 Bledsoe county census as living with grandfather Philip and listed as "May L." She is also listed on 1910 census Sequatchie County as Mae living with grandfather Philip.

The children in the photo with Mama King are Aunt Inis (her daughter b. 1916 and would be about 4 years old in the picture) and her oldest son, Avery R. who was 1 when this picture was taken (b. 1919). Uncle Oz (Osmond) wasn't born until 1921 as explained to me by my father, Roy King.

Mama King loved word puzzles and was a very adept Scrabble player. She made warm applesauce for breakfast. Saved every letter she could. Sent $5 to each grandchild for their birthdays. She was a devout Christian and a member of the Locust Street Church of God in McMinnville. It was with Mama King that I remember seeing snow for the first time. ~~ Lynita
