BEAUMONT, a parish in the ward and county of CUMBERLAND, 4? miles (N.W. by W.) from Carlisle, containing 323 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, united, in 1692, with that of Kirk-Andrews upon Eden, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Carlisle, rated in the king's books at ?8. 1. 8., endowed with ?200 private benefaction, and ?400 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Earl of Lonsdale. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. The poor children of this parish are entitled to instruction in a school erected by subscription, in the parish of Kirk-Andrews upon Eden, to which Thomas Pattinson, in 1785, gave a small endowment.
