My g-g-g-grandfather, Berryman Hicks, was born 7/1/1778 in Spartanburg County, SC, and died 6/11/1839 in Spartanburg Co., SC.

Berryman's parents were William Hicks and Edith (unknown). I have no dates for William or Edith.

William's parents were Richard Hicks, born 1736, died 1812; and Mary (unknown). I have no other information about Richard or Mary.

I do not know whether this William Hicks or Richard Hicks were born (or lived) in South Carolina, or if Spartanburg would have been in the "Kershaw District" of SC, so this info may be of absolutely no use to you. But my Richard Hicks would have been alive for the 1810 census, whatever that means.

I hope I haven't muddied the waters too badly.
