    • Will of Valentine Martin

      In the name of God Amen. May the 21st 1758 I, Valentine Martin, being sick and weak but in perfect senses mind and memory doth make this my last will and Testament in marnner and form followeth, viz:

      Item. I give and bequeath to my son Orson Martin two hundred acres of land and plantation whereon he now dwells to him and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my son Orson Martin six head of cattle to him and his heirs forever.

      Item. I give and bequeath to my son Valentine Martin one hundred acres of land joining Orson's land to him and his heirs forever.

      Item. I give and bequeath to my son Jobe Martin one hundred acres of land to him and his heirs forever the land joining Valentine's land.

      Item. I give and bequeath to my two sons that is Samuel and Isom, the land whereon I now dwell to be equally divided between them. Isom having the Plantation on his part but if Isom should die without an heir my will and desire is that my son John Martin may have his part of the land.

      Item. I give and bequeath to my son John Martin one shilling stearlin.

      Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Ester Bond one shilling stearlin.

      Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Cunningham one cow and calf.

      Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane Boatright one cow and calf.

      Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mildred one cow and calf and one bed of new feathers and furniture.

      Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Ann Martin one feather bed and furniture and a cow and calf.

      Item. I give and bequeath the remainder part of my estate to my beloved wife to do as she shall think proper.

      My desire is that my estate be not appraised.

      I nominate and appoint my beloved wife executrix of this my last will and testament.

      Cumberland Co., VA court held 28th July 1760 this last will and testament of Valentine Martin, decd. was proved by witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on motion of Jane Martin executrixtherein named who made oath according to law, certificate is granted her forobtaining a probate thereof in due form giving security whereupon she together with Samuel Bridgwater and James Cunningham her securetys entered into the ackowledged their bond with condition according to law.
