TISHOMINGO -- Services for William "Bill" Payne Jr., 84, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Westside Church of Christ in Tishomingo with Stuart Bailey and Charles Cook officiating. Burial will be at Tishomingo Cemetery under the direction of Clark FuneraL Home.
Mr. Payne of Tishomingo, passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Carl Albert Indian Health Facility in Ada, Okla. He was born June 29, 1916, in rural area near Tishomingo/Reagan, to William and Daisy Underwood Payne. Bill was one-half Chickasaw Indian.
He was a member of the Westside Church of Christ and had been a resident of Tishomingo the last 25 years. He married Mary Alice McHargue on Dec. 24, 1938, in Tishomingo.
Bill worked and farmed in the Tishomingo area prior to moving to West Texas. While living in Kermit, Texas, Bill worked in the oil fields at Dollarhide, Texas, from 1949 to 1976, before retiring from Pure and Union oil companies. He worked as a pumper/roustabout and chemical technician. During this time he and Mary also owned and operated Otto's Ice Cream Drive In restaurant four years, and they raised four sons. After retirement, Bill and Mary returned to Tishomingo, in 1976.
He is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Mary Alice McHargue Payne, of Tishomingo; four sons and their wives, Charles and Evelyn Payne of Abilene, Texas, Bobby and Ann Payne of Midland, Texas, Perky and Billie Sue Payne and Jerry and Julie Payne, all of Tishomingo; his two sisters and their husbands, Alyene and Harrison Gilbert of Ravia, and Sadie and Clay Williams of Sulphur; 10 loving grandchildren; and 13 lovely great-grandchildren. Uncle "Bill" was loved by all his nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Clemmie "Daisy" Underwood Payne; two sisters, Geraldine Homberger and Clemmie "Chick" Gilliam.
Bearers will be grandsons, Michael Payne, Todd Payne, Jason Payne, Brian Payne, Perry Payne Jr., and his granddaughter's husband Henry Harcrow. [2]
