    • George W. Nevels and Abbie Tucker are my great-grandparents. I have very little info on them. I know his DOB was 10 Jun 1814 (other documents say 1809) and DOD was about 18 Oct 1868 and married Abbie 17 Jan 1834. Her DOB was 16 Oct 1816 and DOD was 3 Jan 1892... [3]
    • Looked through all your research again. I am convinced that George W Nevels was originally George W. Newells and that he is one of the Newells sons. I think that it is more likely that he is the son of John Newell (brother of Landon) than of Samuel Newell JR. My reasons are: a) George W is not one of Jane Montgomery's heirs, although other grandsons are, and b) John Newell's disappearance from the census by the time George W is 16 fits with the idea that no one seemed to remember anything about George W's parents. I bet he was living with someone in 1830 and we may never know because the census at that time did not list names of the household.

    • I have found something interesting. In the 1810 Wayne County Census, there is a George Nevil, over 45, with who I assume is his wife, age 26-45, and 8 kids. That would make him born around 1765 or earlier. There are also three others on that census that look like a variation of Nevels, although the transcribers don't agree. I think there is a Enoch Navels, a Henry Navels and a James Navel. None of them are there in 1820. However, in 1830, in Wayne County, there is a Lucy Nevel, age 20-30, and 3 other females (5-10, 10-15 and 15-20)living next to William Keeth. Now, my records about William Keeth say that he was married to Sarah "Sally" Nevels on November 28, 1815 in Wayne Co, Ky and that she died on January 31, 1825 in Wayne Co., Ky. AND THAT SHE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF GEORGE NEVELS AND UNKNOWN.

I checked for where the George Nevil of the Wayne Co 1810 census could have gone. Can't find him (although there is a George Nevil born around 1775 in VA who shows up with his son, George, in Indiana by 1850. Wrong age, but by only a decade so might be him). There is a George Nevil living in Washington Co, MD in 1778 and a George Nevil living in Rutherford Co, NC in 1782. Could this be the 1810 George Nevil?

Anyway, the 1810 George Nevil had 2 sons under 10 in 1810. Our George shows up as born in 1809 in several census, although his headstone says 1814, but I think that is a later headstone. Also, our George says he was born in KY. And, our George shows on the 1860 Pulaski census as George Nevil. Finally, there is the Sarah Nevel who married William Keeth, who might have been our George's sister (There are 3 girls in George Nevil's household who were of the appropriate age to marry in 1815). Later, in 1830 living
in Wayne Co, there is Lucy Nevel and 3 other girls, who could all have been daughters of George Nevil (there are 5 daughters in the 1810 census).

Obviously, Lucy and Sarah could have been George Nevil's daughters, without our George being one of his sons. It is possible that George Nevil moved on to Indiana, along with his son George (not our George).

Hope this isn't too confusing. Thought it should be considered. Maybe the Newells, Navels, and Nevil are all related. Wayne and Pulaski are right next to each other. I know I have other ancestors who moved from one to the other.
