- Joan Diehl Hennessee, age 75, of Skyland Drive, passed away Friday, March 11, 2005 at Mountain Trace Care Center after a period of declining health. A native of Indiana, Mrs. Hennessee was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. She was a former employee of Oak Ridge National Lab, working as a chemist. Mrs. Hennessee was a varsity cheerleader at UT, and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She was very active with the Sylva First United Methodist Church, and was president of several civic organizations. She was a licensed pilot and member of the 99?s in Knoxville. She love to fly and enjoyed the beach. She had a beach home in Beaufort, NC, where she gathered clams and crabs. She piloted numerous trips to Andros in the Bahamas, Jaco and San Jose, Costa Rica. Mrs. Hennessee was the daughter of the late Ralph Henry and Mary Hester Diehl.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Hennessee of the home; one son, Jack Hennessee, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Cullowhee; one granddaughter, Stephanie Hennessee of Cullowhee also survives.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Monday, March 14, 2005 in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home, 714 W. Main St., Sylva, NC with Rev. Paul Christy officiating. [1]
