- Oscar F. Knowles Jr. NORFOLK
Oscar Frazier Knowles Jr., 86, of the 500 block of San Pedro Drive, died Oct. 10, 2005, at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Mr. Knowles was born in Huntsville, Ala., the son of the late Oscar F. Knowles and Hattie Reed Knowles. He retired from the United States Navy as a chief engineman after 25 years of service. Mr. Knowles was a member of the Norview Masonic Lodge No. 113 AF&AM, the American Legion. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Norview Chapter 131, Fleet Reserve and Submarine Veterans of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mildred J. Knowles of Chesapeake; three daughters, Cheryl K. Hemenway of Chesapeake, C. June Brinkley of Suffolk and Terry Lynn Davis of Hooper, Utah; two sons, Kenneth Knowles of Bayville, N.J., and James Knowles of Ogden, Utah. Mr. Knowles is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel. Interment with Masonic rites and military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk. There will be an Order of the Eastern Star service in the funeral home Thursday at 7 p.m. followed by visitation until 8:30 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.hdoliver.com.
