- Arriving in time for the 1860 census were Merriman and Nancy (McKinnis) Duty. Nancy had been born in Kentucky and their children Marion and Mandaly had been born in Indiana. Merriman's family had moved to Arkansas by 1854, including Mary Ann, Merriman's daughter by his first wife, who later married Elihu C. Hennessee.
At the time of the 1860 Census, Merriman and Nancy's family also included Salathiel and Nancy's 15 year old sister Caroline, who was living with the family.
