Family Sheet for James N. HEMBREE (1774-1850)

James Hembree was born c.1774 in South Carolina (area that became Spartanburg) and died in late 1850 or in 1851 in Washington County, Arkansas (he appears on an 11 Oct 1850 census listing). He was the son of Joel Hembree (1755-1825) and Hannah Pettit (1758-1839). His offspring are well known and he has been the attention of Hembree researchers. I compiled an unfinished file on him in researching his brother Zachariah Hembree (1778-1840) and thought I’d put my notes here for others to pick at.

His wife was Nancy (Pettit?) b.c.1779 d.c.1845. They migrated to central Tennessee by 1807, then to Missouri c.1838, finally to Arkansas by 1847. Their children spread to Oregon, California, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri and Tennessee by 1860.
