Description: Thomas Bess' first wife was Mary Polly Ellis. They had three children - the two you have listed (Nancy and William) and also a daughter Samantha (1856-1913) who is my 2x great grandmother. Samantha married Frank Arnett. You can see all of this in my public Ancestry.com family tree called "Arnett Family of Nashville."
His second wife was Frances "Franky" Webb Mullican (widow of Allen Mullican). Thomas and Franky married in 1859 and had three children:
John Buckner Bess (1862-1880)
Mary Bess (1865-1909)
Henry Jackson Bess (1870-1951)
Franky also had children from her first marriage: Thomas Mullican and Parlee Mullican.
I would very much like to figure out who Thomas Bess' father was but so far, no luck.
