    • David,

Thank you. I think their naming pattern was modern. They just liked the sound of it. I see many are named for surnames found in the community, but no relationship---respect or sound?

If you find more on Stroud, please let me know. I wondered if he had gotten caught up in the Webb Gang brouhaha mentioned in both Monroe Seals’s and E.G. Rodgers’s histories of White Co. He would have been a cousin to the Webbs. Stroud also could have died from illness. I just thought it odd that his brother Cason d. 18 Oct. 1861 and brother Jeremiah d.10 Feb 1862 were both buried in Mt. Pisgah and have headstones. Stroud’s wife Mary Jane has a tombstone at Mt. Gilead.

Let me know if I can supply you with any more info.

      Blessings,

      Sharon

      David,
I spent some time carefully reading the Keathley info that you sent me. You have a date for Reuben Stroud Swindle/Swindell’s death. You cited your source as a notebook by John Wesley of Warren Co.

      1) Does this notebook still exist? Yes

      2) If so, do you know where it is housed, or has it been transcribed? Has not been transcribed. Many years ago, Margie Tucker and I collaborated on the BYARS line and it was during this time period that she made me copies of the Wesley Dodson Notes. I don’t think she copied me on all of his work. There are not categorized and seem to ramble and none of which cite sources of his information. I put them in storage several years ago…

      3) Do you know if there were any other annotations for Reuben Stroud Swindle such as cause of death, where he is buried, etc.?

I have been looking for this info for quite some time, and Stroud has remained a mystery. He and wife Mary Jane were brother and sister to my line Washington Swindell and Eliza Ann Keathley. His daughter Mel lived next to my grandparents in White Co. for quite some time. She appeared in a large number of sibling photos for Wash’s and Eliza Ann’s children.

I could not find a civil war record for Stroud, that being the likeliest cause of death. I see where I cited Dodson on his death-date and as his place of death is in parans, this tells me that “White Co.,TN” is only presumed. He doesn’t appear in Fred Clark’s cemetery listings. Often wondered about “Stroud”. Where did that come from? Also noticed that the traditional child-naming protocols were ignored.

I will appreciate your input. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful…David

    • Ref Wes Dodson's Notes, Book I, p. 57.
White County 1860 Census cites him as "Rouston S."...
    • In 1870 all of his children lived with Samuel Keathley (the grandfather)... [2]
