      Ray Vaughn Watkins


      Graveside services for Mr. Ray Vaughn Watkins, 83, of Burns were Thursday, June 22, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Dickson Union Cemetery with Bro. Eddie Thomas officiating. Services were under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home.

      Mr. Watkins died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at Horizon Medical Center. He was born in Chesterfield, Tenn., Dec. 16, 1922. He was an engineer and a member of the Baptist church. He was a former host on his own radio show in Benton Harbor, Mich. He was a guitar maker (Rabro brand). He was also a dobro and well-known steel guitar player.

      Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Jessie Campbell Dailey Watkins of Burns; son, Ralph W. Watkins of Goodlettsville; daughter, Sharon J. Watkins of Hot Springs, Ark.; brothers, Rex A. Watkins of Coloma, Mich., James C. Watkins of Sanford, Fla., and John R. Watkins of Hartford, Mich.; sisters, Carol Baker of St. Joseph, Mich., and Martha Hennessee of Three Rivers, Mich.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray A. Watkins and Ollie Scates Watkins; son, Ray Watkins; grandson, Ray Allen Watkins; great-grandson, Joseph A. Watkins; brother, Jerry Watkins; and sister Rue Melle Fredrick.
