Stacy: Hi. I am the gggg-grandaughter of Jesse Millsaps. This is what I have on the Millsaps family that you mentioned. Thomas Millsaps was born in Belfast, Ireland in 1679. He died 20 May, 1760 in Augusta County, VA. He was the son of William Millsaps born 1649 in Ireland, and Elizabeth Wood. Thomas was married to Mary Poplin. They were married in Belfast in 1706. In 1735 Thomas and his family came to America. They settled in Augusta County, VA. Their children were: Robert (born 1720, in Belfast, Ireland. Died Dec. 1793 in Randolph, County, NC.). Thomas, William, Joseph, Mary, Jean, and Elizabeth. Robert married Eleanor (Ellen) King in 1758 in Augusta, County VA. Their children were: Ellen ( who died when she was very small), Thomas, Moses, Mary, Robert, Joseph, Jane*(born around 1750, and died Dec. 12, 1846.), Edward (who drowned), William, and James. The land that the family had when living in Augusta, County VA, was given over to one of their brother-in- laws, John McDowell, when the sons moved to Randolph County, NC.Robert, Thomas, and Jospeph all lived and died in Randolph County. Robert's sons Thomas, Moses, James, and Robert JR., along with two sisters, Mary and Jane, and their brother-in-laws, Thomas Farmer, and Samuel Yates (Jesse's father), left Randolph County around 1797, and settled in Greene County, TN. They left behind two brothers, William and Joseph. It was later recorded that William (Robert's son) lost his wife shortly after marriage, and moved to his Uncle Williams in Kentucky. This uncle was supposed to have taught him the saddler's trade. Samuel Yates and Jane*lived in Cocke County, TN. They had 5 children: Jesse Millsaps (illegitimate), he was born around 1768 in Randolph County, NC, and died 1847, Mary Yates, Jane Yates, Samuel Yates Jr., Robert Yates. Jesse was drafted into the War of 1812. Robert Yates died while in military service against the Creek Indians. Jesse married Mary "Polly" Hyder(born 1770 and died 1862). They were married 2 April, 1799. She was the daughter of Michael Hyder, born abt. 1743, Hampshire, VA, died 25 June, 1790 Washington, NC(buried in Hyder Cemetery on Powder Branch Road, Washington County, NC), and Elizabeth Wood, born about 1746, and died 3 Jan., 1841 in Carter County, TN. Jesse Millsaps and Mary "Polly" Hyder's children were: James, Jesse Wallace, Mary, Michael, Andrew, Triphena, Jonathan, Jane, William C., John E., Elizabeth, Jimina and Jemina, Ladesia, and Rebecca.
