Hello David,
Having tried again, I remember why I can't call you---------the number 0-800-327-3380 is not available to me or so the operator says. Have thought about you often and wondered if your Mother is living?
Here is a quick summary of my Vestal family lineage.
William Vestal b c 1667 in England m. before 1692 probably in Chester Co., PA m. Alice Glover Brunsden.
Their son, William b. 9-16-1691 d. 1745 in Frederick Co., VA m. 1716 to Elizabeth (Mercer) Woodward.
Their son David, b. 6-16 1736 d 10-26-1819 in Surry Co., NC m. 10-25- 1759 (Cane Creek MM) Sarah Chamness b 2-11 1742 Frederick Co., MD d.1-20 1822 buried RR cem. Chatham Co., NC--d/o Anthony and Sarah (Cole) Chamness (Sarah's father, Anthony Chamness was b. 17 Feb 1713 in E. Smithfield, London, England d. 9-20- 1777 in Cane Creek, Chatham, NC)
Their son Daniel b. 10-25-1761 in Orange Co., NC d. abt 1822 m. 5-15 -1782 at Rocky River MM to Mary Piggott d/o Jeremiah and Rachel Mayner b.9-1-1766 d. abt 1856 (Piggott later spelled Pickett)
Their daughter Lydia b.6-19-1791 d. 14 Aug 1867 (probate date Carroll Co., GA) m. c 1811 to Michael Goodson s/o William & Mary (Patton) Goodson b. 1787 d. 3 Feb 1868 (probate date Gibson Co, TN)
Their daughter, Mary b. 24 Mar 1816 in Lincoln Co., NC d. 1 Feb 1901 in Jackson Co., IL m. 1 Jan 1833 to John Garrett Dillinger s/o Jacob & Fannie (Will) Dillinger b. Lincoln Co., NC 12 April 1803 d. 25 Dec 1856 in Jackson Co., IL
Their son Henry b. 12 Mar 1851 in Jackson C0., IL d. 11 Nov 1937 in Jackson Co., IL m. 16 Mar 1892 Ella Hestand d/o John & Rachel (Thompson) Hestand b. 25 Jul 1869 in Williamson Co., IL d. 4 Jan 1939.in Jackson Co., IL
Their daughter Lillie was my Mother. m. 06 Oct 1923 to Eugene Werner.
I was born 07 Mar 1932 in Streator, IL and m. 27 Jun 1954 to John K. Mainey
The Vestals and Chamness families were Quakers. I have much land transactions in VA (now W.VA) & NC. The above David gave the land for the NC Rocky River Monthly Meeting and burial grounds. Wife Sarah Chamness was an active Reader of the meeting. I have visited and have photos of the RR cemetery & Deep Creek cem. in Yadkinville (old Surry Co.)
I have seen Daniel & Mary's old BIBLE and have copies of the birth page of their children. I spent time researching in the Hage Library of Guilford College in Greensboro NC which is the despository for the NC Quaker records. William Wade Hinshaw's "Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy " Vol 1, lists the Vestal-Chamness births, deaths and disownment of my Lydia Vestal Goodson for marrying Michael Goodson out of unity.
A Chamness reunion is held in Asheboro, NC each year and I have attended that------some desc. still are Quaker. Have shirt-tail Chamness cousins in Jackson Co., IL
I have just returned to researching the Goodson family----------other lines were easier! Bill Clarke(same line as me from Michael) and Kathy Haynes (from William brother of Mike, your Andrew, Jane, Anna etc.) and I are redoubling our efforts to learn where our William
Goodson who married Mary Patton lived before they show up in the 1790 Lincoln Co., NC federal census.
Want to join us in the search??? Maybe hunting harder for the Patton ancestors will be the answer.
I need to correct an error in the last email I sent to you. I said that two Patton sisters married sons of our Anna Goodson Womack (Anna m. William Womack 3/22/1802 and moved to Warren Co., TN)
WRONG< WRONG < WRONG!!!!!!
The two Patton sisters married 2 sons of Lucy Womack who was the older sibling of our William Womack. Isabelle Patton married Abner Clemons Womack s/o Lucy Womack and her distant cousin William Womack. According to "The Descendants of Thomas and Louvisa Rice Womack" by Oscar B. Womack, this Abner Clemons Womack is buried in Jackson Co., AL. Sallie Patton, sister to Isabelle Patton married Asa Marion Womack brother of Abner Clemons.
So who were " the sisters Patton" 's father? Mary Patton Goodson, w/o our old man William, moved to Rutherford Co., NC from Lincoln Co, NC for she is HH in the 1800 census there with children. Why did she move to Rutherford Co????? Did she have relatives there? I've been looking at old deed books and a more recent book published by the Old Tryon Co Gen Soc from papers recently found in a vault--author is shirt-tail Dellinger cousin--for clues to Pattons.(By the way Kathy Haynes & I have walked upon the land granted to old man William Goodson...she did a search.)
Am sure the above is sufficient info for the day------who said emails were supposed to be short in lenght? What do you or yours know about the Patton Family-----any contact? If you don't know, could you make something up! :<)
What more have you learned about your Lytle, Little family? The name shows up over here in early records as I am sure it does elsewhere.
