In Response To: HARMON - 1850 census (Brenda Hudson)
Brenda, the first census of Sequatchie County is 1860. I find the William B. Harmon family in Bledsoe County, TN in 1850...as follows: HH #13-13 William B. Harmon, 23; Susan S., 20; Martha 4/12; all born in TN.
There are also two other Harmon families, but I believe this is the one you are looking for..
In 1860 they are in District 4, Sequatchie County, household 121-99, as follows: Wm. B. Harmon, 34; Susan S. 31; Martha 10; Mary 8; Henry 6; Faney E. 3; Joseph 1; all born TN. In 1870 they are still in Sequatchie County, district 4, HH #57. The wife Susan S. must have died as she is not listed.
The family is: Bart Harmon, 48; Martha 20, Mary, 18; Henry 16; Fanny 14; Joseph 12; Frances, 8; and Susan, 6.
This Mary is 18 in 1870, and would be about 21 when Mary Harmon married John Hudson, Jr. on 9 Oct 1873. Had you noticed that the security on the marriage bond is one J. H. Hudson, who most likely is the father of the groom?
In a compendium of Biographies, published in 1898, there is a biography of Elijah H. Hudson, son of John Hudson. This John Hudson married Isabel Hackworth and they had five children:Elijah H., John H., Joseph, Samuel, and Lizzie.
(The 1850 Marion County, TN census shows: HH943-943 John Hudson, 23; Isabella, 25; Eliga 11/12; all born TN.) ( The 1860 Marion County census shows: HH52-51 John Hudson, 33; Eliijah, 10; John 8; Elizabeth 2.)
The biography goes on to say that after the death of Isabel, John Hudson married Matilda Heard, and they had four children: Byron, Isabel, Nancy, and James L.
(The 1870 Marion County census shows: John Hutson, 43; Matilda, 38; Elijah 20; John 19; Elizabeth 13; Biran 8; Frizzell 7, and Nancy 5.) Since the above John is 19, and would have been around 22 by 9 Oct 1873, this very well could be the John Hudson who married Mary Harmon.
Now that I've looked all this up, I've found in 1880 Marion County, Dist. 1, HH46-46 John Hudson 23; Pollie 24; Sarah 5; Nor F. 3; and William 2. They are living next to a William Hudson, age 52 who could be this John's father.
So I don't know if I've helped you.
Sara

In Response To: HARMON - 1850 census (Brenda Hudson)
Hi Brenda,
I don't have info on your Harmons, but I have Hudson ancestors. The John Hudson who married Isabelle Hackworth and then Matilda Heard is my line. He had a son John H. Hudson who married Mary Josephine Holloway (my line). I think the William that Sara Goins mentioned living next door to John and Polly Hudson may be this William: (brother to the above John Hudson who married Hackworth)William M. Hudson b. May 1826 d. 9/1/1911 and buried at Griffith/Price Cemetery in Marion County. He married Martha Jane Griffith abt 1848. She was born abt 1828 and died June 1st, 1892.
I don't have his children listed, but if this turns out to be your line, I have his siblings and parents, and lots of info.
