Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church for Mrs. Mary A Coday, 71, life long Wright county resident and long a prominent member of the Mansfield community, who died at her home here Saturday evening at 8 o'clock following a lingering illness. The Rev. C. A. Stephenson officiated and interment was in the Mansfield cemetery under direction of Steffe Funeral Home.
Mrs. Coday had been in declining health for several years and had been seriously ill for the past few weeks.
She was born in Wright county Sept. 11, 1868, the oldest daughter of a family of eleven children. She was married to the late Jas. K. P. Coday, who operated the Mansfield Drug Co. here for many years, Nov 3, 1889. Mr and Mrs Coday moved to Mansfield in 1890.
Her husband preceded her in death Feb 24, 1934. A daughter, Maude, also preceded her in death, Dec 1, 1918.
She had been a member of the Methodist church ever since she moved to Mansfield and had served on the official board of the church.
A large crowd gathered at the church to pay last tribute to the pioneer resident who was on of the last of the early residents of Mansfield.
Pallbearers at the services were Hadan Coday, Walter Coday, Oren Ballow, of this city and Paul McMahan, Evan McMahan and Alfred Pyatt of Seymour.
Mrs. Coday is survived by one son Ernest Coday of Seymour; a grandson Robert of this city; three brothers, Hosea Coday of Mansfield, John Coday of Mansfield, Calvin Coday of Seattle, Wash; and four sisters, Mrs. Andy Milsap of Mansfield, Mrs. Docia Whitaker of Hartville, Malissa Coday of Mansfield, and Mrs. E. V. Quillan of Norwood. [2]
