Robert Nelson Hennessee, 81, of Asheville, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept 15, at Keener Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Fulk officiating.
A son of the late W.C. and Stella Hennessee, he was born Feb. 25, 1926, in Rocky River, Tenn. He moved to Sylva in 1934. He was a 1942 graduate of Sylva High School and attended Western Carolina Teacher's College before graduating in 1946 from the University of Tennessee with a degree in geography. He worked for his father in the lumber business for three years before moving to Washington D.C. in 1949 where he worked for the Army Maps Service for 25 years before retiring as deputy director of the Africa Branch in 1974 and returning to Jackson County to work as office manager of W.C. Hennessee Lumber Company until his retirement in 1980. He enjoyed music and horse racing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Pelleaux Hennessee, who died in 2000.
Surviving are two stepsons, Jim Hubbard of Arden and Wade Hubbard of Cullowhee; two sisters, Dortha McDonald of Sylva and Donna Bryan of Columbia, S.C..; one brother, Jack Hennessee of Sylva; and two stepgrandsons
