Hazel was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and always had a true passion for music and Gospel singing. She was always noted in the Gospel singing arenas as the best alto singer around with a quality God-given talent. Hazel sang with the Decatur Quartet for many years and traveled to many churches and conventions, as well as singing at many funerals on request.
She also owned and operated the Beauty Box in Downtown Decatur for many years, which she greatly enjoyed. After she retired as a hair dresser, she pursued a music degree and graduated from Cleveland State Community College. She also taught piano lessons for a few years from her home to area young people, who loved her dearly. Hazel's family had always been a priority to her and she spent every Sunday preparing meals for the famous Sunday dinner at Granny Hazel's house to bring everyone together.
