Rosa Lee Elkins Hennessee
Rosa Lee Elkins Hennessee, 88, of Athens, went to be with the Lord on Friday afternoon, Sept. 26, 2008, at her residence after a lengthy illness.
A native of Bradley County, she had lived in McMinn County most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Dalton Elkins, and was also preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Johnie William Hennessee; two brothers, Haverd and Forrest Elkins; and four sisters, Ora Jackson, Dollie Bright, Margie Jackson and Emma Lou Vincent. She was a charter member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include six daughters and five sons-in-law, Betty Morrow of Athens, Charlotte and Jacky Davis of Riceville, Fran and Dan Walker of Athens, Anna and William Moon of Decatur, Carolyn and George Brown of Riceville, and Connie and John Powers of Cleveland; one son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Faye Hennessee of Athens; 14 grandchildren, Ronnie Hennessee, Tonia Martin, Billy Morrow, Chris Morrow, Debbie Wilson, Sandy Moses, Rick Davis, Kathy Lewallen, Christy Lasher, Donna Stephens, Jeff Walker, Patsy Green, Beverly Woodall and Nathan Powers; 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Hope of Athens.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday at Jerry Smith Funeral Home with Dr. John Powers and the Rev. Derek McCosh officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. [2]
