    • Biography

"Mollie", Marie Melissa Hennessee was born September 6, 1858 in either Shelby or Effingham County Illinois. She most likely moved to Grayson County with her paternal uncle, William Hennessee and grandmother, Sally Hennessee. It may be coincidence, however, it is likely the Hennessee and Brown family had known each the other back in Wilson County Tennessee. "Molllie's" great grandfather James Hennessee's second wife, Jane (McGee) Hennessee, was also the second wife of William Henry Browns maternal great uncle, Joseph Biles

It will also be of interest to the Brown family that "Molly's" great aunt, Elizabeth (Hennessee) Martin, half sister of Molly's grandfather, Alford Hennessee, is purported to be the daughter of a Cherokee Indian from North Carolina. Elizabeth (Hennessee) Martin was the wife of Amos Martin and they were among the first settlers of Effingham County, Illinois.

"Mollie", Marie Melissa Hennessee married William Henry Brown circa 1880. In 1915 they moved to Jack County from Grayson County "because the ground looked so rich and fertile".

      Children:

      Clara Mae Brown Goddard (1880 - 1951)
      Leila E. Brown Rankin (1885 - 1968)
      Minnie Lee Brown Callaway (1887 - 1976)
      John Leslie Brown (1889 - 1969)
      Owen Cleveland Brown (1891 - 1962)

Henry was a farmer/rancher and Mollie was a homemaker. Henry never drove a car but he wanted his "little queen," Mollie to have anything that she wanted, so he purchased a Model-t. He rode with her but only with the door open and his foot on the running board.

Mollie was so small in statue, 4"11", as Henry was tall, about 6". She is mostly remembered for never saying anything bad about anyone, always finding something good about them, even if it was minor. Henry was known being the town alarm clock! Every morning at 4:30 a.m., he would go out the back door and holler "ya-hoo" and he could be heard clear across town. Henry died March 18, 1937 and Mollie died February 19, 1939. . . . "
