Biography
Margaretha Fischer, daughter of Hans Leonhard Fischer and Margaretha nâee unknown, was born in 1696 in Thčurnhofen, Bavaria (at that time the village was known as Dčurnhof). She married Andreas Killian on the 6th of May 1722 in Feuchtwangen, Bavaria.[1]
Flag of Germany
Margartha (Fischer) Killian migrated from Germany to Philadelphia.
Flag of Philadelphia
"Andreas arrived in Philadelphia in 1732."[2] Whether or not Margaretha was with him has not been proven, but she probably was.
Andreas Killian married (2) Mary [Beaver or Cline] in the 1750s: a memorial tombstone for their son Daniel has the birth year 1752.[3]
"It is unknown when Margaretha Fischer Killian died. From census records of Andreas and his Last Will and Testament we know Margaretha died prior to the birth of Mary's son Daniel ca. 1750."[4]
Research Notes
1722 marriage record shows Magdalene. Baptism records show Margaretha. Killian researchers investigated village records for a death of Magdalene and a marriage for Margaretha and, finding none, concluded that "they are most probably the same person. She may have had a double name, e.g., Margaretha Magdalena. Clerics recorded verbal information and discrepancies with multiple names were common."[4]
Three records of baptisms for Andreas Kilian and Margaretha Fischer's children. The first being that of Leonhardt Kilian baptised 20 April 1724. (Erzberg 172-1, 1724, page 211). All three records note the name of the mother as Margaretha Fischer, wife of Andreas Kilian. (from Fischer-2384)
Andreas raised 12 children. Three are known to have been born in Germany to Margartha (Margaret, Leonard, and John). The later children, simply by their birth years, must be by a different woman than his first wife, whom he married in 1722. The Andreas Killian Descendants Historical Association's biography for Andreas's son Samual says that Mary was the mother of four of his children: Daniel (b c1752), Samuel (b c1756), Christianna (b 20 Feb. 1755), and Elizabeth (b c1760).[5] That leaves five children born after John (son of Margaretha), baptized in Germany on 24 September 1729. The dates are estimated by AKDHA based on the order the children are named in Andreas' 1785 will:
Jean: born between 1731 and 1734 ("Andreas arrived in Philadelphia in 1732, so this could place her birth anywhere between Germany and the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia")[6]
Crate: born between 1733 and 1736[7]
Andrew: born between 1735 and 1736, "somewhere between Pennsylvania and North Carolina"[8]
George: born 1740[9] or 1745,[10] (birth/baptism record not found); born before Andreas was known to have settled in North Carolina (1747).
Catherine ('Trina'): "believed she was born between 1746 and 1753."[11]
