WILKESBORO - Kiffin Anderson Hennessee, 78, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at Northside Hospital in Atlanta from injuries suffered in a fall Friday morning.
Kiffin grew up in Burnsville, the son of Wren and Ruby Hennessee. Kiffin and his wife, Miriam Phillips Hennessee, were married for more than 58 years and had resided for the past 43 years at 612 Winston St. in Wilkesboro.
Kiffin had been retired since 1992. He had spent 30 years in the tire business with his brothers-in-law, Howard and Bruce Phillips of North Wilkesboro. Kiffin served in the Pacific during World War II, assembling and testing torpedoes in the U.S. Navy.
He received an associate's degree at Asheville-Biltmore College, now UNC-Asheville, in the early 1950s following his discharge from the U.S. Navy. Kiffin was a Master Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite as part of North Wilkesboro Masonic Lodge 407. He also served for some 20 years as an assistant scoutmaster of Troop 334, First Baptist Church, North Wilkesboro.
Kiffin is survived by his wife, Miriam; two sons, Keith Hennessee of Houston, and Philip Hennessee of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Karl Hennessee of Toulouse, France, Christiane Zacharian of Honolulu, Katie Hennessee, a student at Tulane University in New Orleans, Alison Hennessee of Atlanta, Ian Hennessee of Atlanta, and Zachary Hennessee of Atlanta; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Hennessee, 3, of Toulouse, France.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro, with Dr. N. Nelson Granade Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 9, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro, where Kiffin and Miriam have been members since 1958, or to the Old Hickory Council of the Boy Scouts of America for use with underprivileged children.
