  McMinnville resident and Warren County native G.H. Powell, Jr., 82, was born Aug. 1, 1923 and died Dec. 21, 2005 at Raintree Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness. A retired, self-employed building contractor and a member of Central Church of Christ, where he served as church treasurer for many years, he served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the son of the late George H. Powell, Sr. and Edley Heard Powell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Juanita Powell Smith, and nephew, Hugh Powell. He was married to his wife of 55 years, Patsy Phillips Powell on Feb. 4, 1950. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a son, Phillip E. Powell of McMinnville; three grandchildren, Lacy, Casi, and Saylem Powell; two great-grandchildren, Lakelyn and Aleya; several cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. today at High's Chapel with Ernest Laws officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery with military graveside rites to be administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service today at High's.
