Hello Robert,
I've just returned from the archives where I tried to sort out Elisha & Elijah Chambers who lived in Mena or Ink, Polk County, Arkansas. Elisha is my ancestor and many have said he had a twin brother, Elijah. Here's what I was able to find on Elijah. He was in the 1860 DeKalb Co, TN census. He was age 32, b. TN, wife Elizabeth age 26 b. TN. They had children: Amanda age 8, Laura age 7, Martha A 5, Helen 3, Sophronia 1. Also with them is Milly Cantrell age 50 widow b. NC.
1870 census Carroll Co, TN. Elijah is age 41, Elizabeth 38. additional children are Belle age 9, and Edmond age 4. Milly's last name looks like Catsell this time and she's age 75. I didn't find him in the index for
1880 in either TN, AR, KY or MO, so if he was alive he didn't have children under age 10. Elisha was in TN in 1850(living with Jane Gay age 50), 1860 he's married and Jane Gay lives with them,(couldn't find him in 1870), and 1880 he's in Van Buren, TN. He must have moved to AR shortly after the census for I have a land record for Polk County, AR in 1881. He is buried in AR. His children used the names Elisha & Elijah many times, so you'll find younger Elijah's in AR records.
The brothers Elisha & Elijah served in the Mexican War. Both were in Co. F, 3 Tenn Inf, enlisting Oct 1847, and discharged Aug 1848. Elisha drew a pension of $8 per mo. starting when he was age 62. I can't find where Elijah drew. I still didn't determine if they were twins. The ages on the war records differ by a couple years, but all the family still insist they were twins. Hope this helps. Donna

Hello Dale,
I am interested in Elisha & Elijah Chambers.
I have found Elisha's Mexican War record and pension records, but only found where Elijah enlisted and was discharged, which were the same dates as Elisha.
I did not know they married twins or their cousins.
Elisha mar. Mary Ann Jane Johnson Nov 21, 1850 in DeKalb Co, TN.
Who was her twin?
How was she related to Elisha?
Elisha & Mary Chambers are my gg grandparents.
Donna
