Notes |
Willard J. McGee was born April 1, 1916 in McMinnville, Tennessee to Irving and Mary McGee. Along with him were nine brothers and sisters. He attended high school and graduated in 1935 from Letcher High School.
On November 23, 1932 Willard married the love of his life, Marie Gere, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. During the time they were married he served for his country in World War II. May 4, 1945 the war ended and Willard was released as a corporal with honorable discharge.
Farming was his life for 31 years. Willard retired from farming in 1978. He drove a Sioux Falls school bus for 5 years and also worked at Vern Eide for 17 years. Willard loved family gatherings with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His hobbies were playing cards, bowling and golf.
Survivors include his two daughters, Nancy (Everett) Bohnenberger and Cindy Short all of Sioux Falls. Willard had four grandchildren, Andy Brinkman, Ali Brinkman, Chris (Sarah) Bohnenberger and Anthony Bohnenberger and one great grandchild, Caden Bohnenberger. He is also survived by four sisters, Wilma Aulner of Mitchell, SD, Hazel Brinkman of Blair, NE, Joyce (Don) Lucas of Reliance, SD and Delores (Bill) Bunde of Lyons, SD, many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife Marie, Willard was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers,Albert, Jake and Jodie, one sister, Helen Van Walligan and his granddaughter, Katie Jo.
Willard's family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude for the wonderful care and concern he was shown at the Veterans Administrative Hospital.
The family will greet friends Thursday, November 5th from 5-7:30pm at Miller Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm, Friday, November 6th at First Baptist Church (22nd and Covell).
