Mary Tudor, Queen of France (1496-1533)
Mary Tudor, Queen of France (1496-1533)

the third daughter of Henry VII of England and Elizabeth of York, was an English princess. Mary became the third wife of Louis XII of France, more than 30 years her senior. Following his death, she married Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk. The marriage, which was performed secretly in France, took place during her brother's reign and without his consent. This necessitated the intervention of Thomas Wolsey and although the couple were eventually pardoned by Henry VIII, they were forced to pay a large fine.

Mary's second marriage produced four children; and through her eldest daughter Frances, Mary was the maternal grandmother of Lady Jane Grey, who was the de facto monarch of England for a little over a week in July 1553.

Mary with her family...
Mary with her family...
Mary Ann Hershberger and her children, front and back, and Mary as an older woman. Mary was a Dunkard which later became the Church of the Brethren which explains her plain dress.

Here are my tentative identifications:

Front row: I suspect the Hennessee daughters are the ones in front. They look younger than the others. Della M. Hennessee (1884-1904), and Lydia Jane Hennessee (1886-1911).

Second row: The man in the second row is probably Benjamin Franklin Dyer (1874-1944).

Third row: The man is Emanuel Marcellus Dyer (1871-1944). The woman beside him with her hand on his shoulder is probably his wife Mathursa Jane Carr (1877-1912). They were married in 1890.

The other two women are probably her daughters Lousettie Elizabeth Dyer (1878-1934), and Almeda Viola Dyer (1881-?). I have no way of knowing which is which.

Cordially,

Rose Ann Husted

Matilda of Scotland, Queen of England (1080-1118)
Matilda of Scotland, Queen of England (1080-1118)

Her court was filled with musicians and poets; she commissioned a monk, possibly Thurgot, to write a biography of her mother, Saint Margaret. She was an active queen and, like her mother, was renowned for her devotion to religion and the poor. William of Malmesbury describes her as attending church barefoot at Lent, and washing the feet and kissing the hands of the sick. Matilda exhibited a particular interest in leprosy, founding at least two leper hospitals, including the institution that later became the parish church of St Giles-in-the-Fields. [17] She also administered extensive dower properties and was known as a patron of the arts, especially music.

Melvin & Maggie George
This is a picture of Melvin J. George, born November 27, 1892 in Laurelburg, Van Buren County, Tennessee, and his wife, Maggie Cole George taken on their 50th anniversary in the Centertown Community Center. I am not sure what newspaper this was in. I'm assuming it was either in Van Buren or Warren County, Tennessee. They were married September 13, 1920 and had four children: Lloyd George, Colbert George, Hulen George, and Christine George Hall. Melvin George was the brother of my great-grandmother, Hannah George Martin. Melvin was the son of James Madison George and Margaret E. Priest George and the grandson of Mathew George and Nancy Seamons. In 1970, they lived in McMinnville, Tennessee.

Millom Castle
Millom Castle
Millom castle was built by Godard de Boyvil who was in possession of the first manor of Millom. The Lordship of Millom at this time, was such a senior position, that it had complete jurisdictional independence, meaning that sheriff of the county could not enter the castle uninvited!

The castle later passed to the Huddleston family after the last de Boyvil died with no male heir. The castle saw action during the English Civil War, and was badly damaged in a one canon attack in 1648.

Miriam Virginia Phillips Hennessee (1925-2005)
Miriam worked for several years in the Bank of North Wilkesboro, as a teller, where she was known and trusted by the entire Wilkes Community. Her family entrusted the bookkeeping for its real property to her for her whole adult life. But her real passion was homemaking, in the grand style of Southern women for many generations past, and her table was always overflowing with fresh baked biscuits, pies and cakes complementing big plates of fried chicken and garden vegetables. For more than fifty years, her husband, her children, and her grandchildren, and many of their friends, rushed to sit at her table and praise her cooking, to her great delight and joy.

Muncaster Castle
Muncaster Castle
is a privately owned castle overlooking the Esk river, about a mile east of the west-coastal town of Ravenglass in Cumbria, England.

Muncaster Castle is owned by the Pennington family, who have lived at Muncaster for at least 800 years. The Muncaster estate was granted to Alan de Penitone in 1208. The oldest parts of the castle include the Great Hall and the 14th century pele tower, a type of watch-tower fortification unique to the English-Scottish border region.
