William III de Ferrers, 5th Earl of Derby (1193 - 28 March 1254) was an English nobleman and head of a family which controlled a large part of Derbyshire including an area known as Duffield Frith.

He was born in Derbyshire, England, the son of William de Ferrers, 4th Earl of Derby and Agnes of Chester, a daughter of Hugh of Kevelioc, Earl of Chester and Bertrada de Montfort. He succeeded to the title in 1247, on the death of his father and, after doing homage to King Henry III, he had livery of Chartley Castle and other lands of his mother's inheritance. He had accompanied King Henry to France in 1230 and sat in parliament in London in the same year.

In the winter of 1642, Augustine Warner I arrived in Jamestown with twelve new settlers for the Virginia Colonies. For bringing these colonists to the new frontier, Warner was given a "head Grant" of 600 acres in Gloucester, Virginia. He eventually expanded his acreage at his new plantation, WARNER HALL, to several thousand acres prior to his death in 1674.

Cousin Karen found this picture of her mother and written on the back in my mother's writing was, "Margie before she married". The photo was taken in the back of our house on Continental Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, in 1948.

Aunt Margie came to Detroit after her 1948 graduation from Central High School in McMinnville, Tennessee. Shortly after she arrived she attended and finished a secretarial school and found work at Chrysler where she met and married Uncle Jack.

Fridays were pay-day for her and she never failed to bring me a small toy of some kind...usually a balsam-wood airplane. Of course, as a child, I never forgot her generosity. I was very close to Aunt Margie and miss her dearly...

The Big Springs Primitive Baptist Church that Jesse led was constructed in the winter of 1795-96 from hand-hewn logs, and is still standing today near Springdale, over two centuries later. It is one of the oldest churches still standing in the State of Tennessee.

Bolling Hall, Bradford, England
Bolling Hall, Bradford, England
Bolling Hall is one of the oldest buildings in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. It is currently used as a museum and education centre. The building is about a mile from the centre of Bradford. Its surroundings are suburban in character.

Before the Industrial Revolution, Bradford was a small town and difficult to defend as it lay in a basin. However, Bolling Hall occupies a commanding position on a hillside. The earliest part of this building, dating from the 14th century, has been interpreted as a pele tower, although Bradford is somewhat outside the typical geographical area for these defensive structures.

The Manor of Bolling (Bollinc) is first mentioned in Domesday Book and was at that time in the possession of a man named Sindi. The manor then came under the control of Ilbert de Lacy. By 1316 the manor was owned by William Bolling, and Bollings owned the estate until the late 15th century when control went to the Tempests who held the estate until 1649. The estate changed hands several times thereafter until eventually it was let to several tenants until being presented to Bradford Corporation in 1912. It was opened as a museum three years later.

During the second siege of Bradford in 1643, during the English Civil War, the house was a Royalist base. On this occasion the Royalists took the town, which had strong Parliamentarian sympathies, and it was thought that the victors would put the inhabitants to the sword. There is a legend that a ghost appeared in the bedroom where the Royalist commander Earl of Newcastle was staying to tell him to "Pity poor Bradford". There is usually material on display relating to the English Civil War including a death mask of Oliver Cromwell. In the 18th century parts of the house were modernised by the architect John Carr, following a fire.

Bolton Castle
Bolton Castle

Birthplace of George Calvert, born about 1525...

Bolton Castle is a 14th-century castle located near Wensleydale, Yorkshire. The castle was built between 1378 and 1399 by Richard, 1st Baron Scrope of Bolton, and is an example of a quadrangular castle. The licence to build it was granted in July 1379 and a contract with the mason Johan Lewyn was made in September 1378. Construction was reputed to cost 18,000 Marks. The 16th century writer John Leland described 'An Astronomical Clock' in the courtyard and how smoke was conveyed from the hearth in the hall through tunnels. Bolton Castle was described by Sir Francis Knollys as having 'The highest walls of any house he had seen'.

Brother Fred in Germany...
I think he took a trip to Germany sometime in the early 70's and I think this was in Bremenhaven. I remember asking him why this northern, coastal city - I had hoped he would of travelled South to the mountains...

This picture was provided by Maggie Dew, a genuine, bonda-fide, ty-died 1960's "Flower Child" and a loving, dear friend to Fred. She sent this photo yesterday, August 12th, 2017 and I've uploaded it Sunday, August 13th, 2017
