Sweet Aunt Bessie

Just sent you a picture of you and Aunt Bessie on Mama's porch, which I thought you should have. It's a great picture and I know it will be special for you, as it's special for me to see the two of you together. It was made your earlier trip this year. [April, 2013]

Henry Reed Gribble (1856-1938)
Tabitha "Bitha" Hash Gribble (1856-1937) Henry Reed Gribble (1856-1938)
Gribble cousin that sent me the picture tried to scan it to make it better. She scanned one half and then the other. It was originally all one picture.

She told me that Tabitha and Henry divorced in the early 1900s and Henry remarried. Tabitha eventually went to live with the son in Waco where she died. After she died, Henry went to live with the son until he died. The "kids" buried Henry next to Tabitha. The Gribble cousin said that Tabitha would have been most unhappy. Most people do not know about the divorce.

I found a census record that showed Henry living on the "Poor Farm" in Gatesville, TX about 1930±. I guess it was after that and after Tabitha died that he went to Waco to live with the son.

October 8th, 2016;

WEDDING PICTURE OF TABITHA HASH AND HENRY GRIBBLE IN TENNESSEE: 01 Sep 1872 WARREN COUNTY, TENNESSEE

Tabitha was about 16 and Henry was about 17. He looks scared. She looks like a Madonna picture.

A Gribble cousin that died a few years ago gave me this picture. I would hate for it to go in the bonfire when I croak. Maybe you can be the savior!

Best wishes,

Doris Brown Buhr

The Battle of Bosworth Field
The Battle of Bosworth Field

as depicted by Philip James de Loutherbourg and probable site of the death of John Hutton, Esquire (1446-1485), who is the 16th great-grandfather of the grandchildren of Vernia Elvira Swindell Byars (1894-1985).

The Battle of Bosworth (or Bosworth Field) was the last significant battle of the Wars of the Roses, the civil war between the Houses of Lancaster and York that raged across England in the latter half of the 15th century. Fought on 22 August 1485, the battle was won by the Lancastrians.

Their leader Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond, by his victory became the first English monarch of the Tudor dynasty. His opponent, Richard III, the last king of the House of York, was killed in the battle. Historians consider Bosworth Field to mark the end of the Plantagenet dynasty, making it a defining moment of English and Welsh history.

Katherine Swynford, Duchess of Lancaster (also spelled Katharine or Catherine), was the third wife of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, a son of King Edward III. She had been the Duke's lover for many years before their marriage. The couple's children, born before the marriage, were later legitimated during the reign of the Duke's nephew, Richard II, although with the provision that neither they nor their descendants could ever claim the throne of England.
