    Biography

Thomas was born about 1664. He was the son of Francis and Elizabeth Settle. At the time of his father's death, he was married and settled on the tract of land that his father left him in his will. No information pertaining to his wife has been found, but, she must have preceded him in death as he makes no reference to her in his will. He does mention his son Thomas and a granddaughter Catherine Burrsa and a great grandson Tarplay Bragg. The granddaughter may have been the child of an unknown daughter, and no one has discovered who Tarply was. Thomas passed away about 1747.[1]

    Biography

You will find this person with a middle name of Posthumous all over the web. That is because he was born after his father passed. In his father's will, his father refers to this unborn child.[1]

Francis Settle was born about 1622-1623 in Yorkshire, England. He married firstly Elizabeth Unknown in 1658 and secondly, Mary Williams about 1702. He died on Totusky Creek, Richmond Co., Virginia in 1707.[2][3]

Francis was transported before 1657 by William Underwood.[4]

His wife, Elizabeth was mentioned in a land deed on May 2, 1665, based on that date, she must have been the mother of all of his children. With her he had four children:

    JOHN (1659 - 1738),
    FRANCIS (JR.) (1661 - 1701),
    THOMAS (1664 - 1748), and
    HENRY (1666 - 1702)

After Elizabeth's death in 1701, he married MARY WILLIAMS (widow of RICE WILLIAMS) in 1702 and had children.

Francis died in 1708 on his plantation on Totusky Creek in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia, where he had made his home for approximately a half century. He lived to be 85 years of age.

There has been speculation that Francis' first wife's maiden name was most likely a Bruce. [5]. The church of "All Saints"[6] did not record anything in their registers between 1602 and 1631. Either the church was being built or repaired, they had no priest or the registers for Barwick in Elmet were recorded at another church during that time, which is very common. To date, no evidence exits of a known last name for Elizabeth.

    Birth:
Potterton is a hamlet 1 mile (1.5 km) north of Barwick-in-Elmet in City of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England.[1] The hamlet falls within the Harewood ward of the Leeds Metropolitan Council.[2] The hamlet is just south of the A64 road and so has access to junction 44 of the A1(M) motorway 2.5 miles (4 km) away with Leeds being only 7 miles (11 km) to the west.[3]

The hamlet is described in the Domesday Book as being part of the Skyrack Wapentake and belonging to Earl Edwin.[4] The name itself is said to derive from 'Pottere Tun', meaning 'The Potter's farmstead'.[5][6]

The west wing of Potterton Hall was declared a Grade II* listed building in 1982.[7]

South of Potterton lies the deserted Medieval village of Potterton which includes many earthworks and a Holloway. The area is scheduled as an ancient monument.[8]

Mary (Rice) Bruce was a US Southern Colonist.

A previous version of this profile claimed, citing only an online tree,[1] that she was the daughter of an immigrant family to Massachusetts-- Edmund Rice and Thomasine Frost. That couple did have a daughter, Mary, who married and remained in Massachusetts.

This Mary Rice has been detached from those parents. In addition, the PGM project is protecting and tracking this profile due to these controversial claims.

    Biography
Mary Jane Rice was born about 1617 in England. She died 26 FEB 1646 in Virginia.
