I am researching my great-grandmother's family from Dunlap TN and have hit a huge brick wall. I have not had much contact with anyone else researching this line especially since my Mom passed away, so any help I can receive will be appreciated.

My great grandmother is Mary "Polly" Teeters (Jun 1857- 21 Nov 1925) married 9 Jul 1874 to John Smith (1853-1926). Polly and John are buried in Old Union Cemetery in Dunlap, TN.

John and Polly had 8 children:

    Josie Smith (1875 - ?) married Sidney Brewer (1869 - ?)
    James H. Smith (1877 - 1963) married Sarah Ann ?? (1877 - 1958)
    Lottie Smith (1880 - 1967) married Charlie Clemmons (1887 - 1957)
    Sarah J. Smith (1885 -?) married William Simmons (1885 - ?)
    Susan Smith (1888 - 1956) married Grover Walker (1891 - 1981)
William Garrett Smith (1892 - 1966) married Liza Jane Layman (1907 - 1982) Garrett and Liza are my maternal grandparents.
    George Smith (1895 - 1962) married Florence Griffith (1901 - ?)
    Houston Smith (1896 - approx 1902)

I believe that Polly Teeters' parents were William Teeters (1814 - ?) and Elizabeth Whitlow (1825 - ?), per her death certificate. If this is true, then William's parents surely were Jacob and Suzannah Teeters from Bledsoe Co, TN. Correct?

Polly's husband, John Smith's parents were M. Garrett Smith (1825 - ?) and Jane Hughes Smith (Apr 1830 - ?), according to his death certificate. John had a brother named Houston Smith that married Susan King who are the grandparents of LeBron Smith that lives on the family farm there in Dunlap TN just a few hundred yards from Old Union Cemetery.

I have spoken with LeBron and was able to verify that M. Garrett and Houston Smith's parents were David Smith and Susan Handy Smith of Bledsoe County, TN. That is as far back as I can get the Smith side of my family.

I have been able to flesh out my grandmother's Layman line in Marion and Grundy Counties (other surnames in this family are Ross, Cheek, Ramsey, Tabor), but my grandfather's Teeters line has been more difficult for me to research.

You can see most all my family lines on my webpage at . If there are any Teeters, Smiths, Layman, etc out there that can trace their line to my Bledsoe and Sequatchie County, TN families,

I would LOVE to hear from you. Thanks in advance, Donna
