    Notes:

    Hi Anita,

I have corresponded with the ladies in the genealogy department of the Forest City, NC library-they have been very helpful and I understand they have many documents pertaining to folks living in Rutherford County at its inception. Stripling's parents, William Byars and Sarah Ann Doggett Byars, settled on Broad River and Floyd's Creek. Below is an email I received from Cecil Lovelace, a local Baptist minister and a passage from Bridges to the Past regarding the Suttle and Byars families. I understand there is a large Byars family in the Cliffside area. I hope you have an enjoyable trip.

Hi Tim. Good to hear from you. I live just a short distance from Floyd's Creek, and Broad River. Broad River crosses Hwy 221 South just about a mile above the NC/SC state line. Floyd's Creek crosses 221 South just about two miles North of where the river crosses. There is a pretty good bend in the road to the point that the road is running about NW to SE at the crossing of the creek, so I would say they meet somewhere within a couple of miles West of Hwy 221. I am a minister and only a couple weeks ago I preached in revival services at a church that has a large Byars family. Some of those live just a mile or so down the road from me.

    Blessings,

    Cecil

"Before the Revolution, the Suttle and Byars families moved westward across North Carolina to Old Tryon(Rutherford County) where they settled on Broad River at Floyd's Creek. During the Revolution, both Joseph Suttle and William Byars died, leaving Molly and Sarah Ann with large families to rear alone. Later in life the sisters remarried. Molly to Isaiah Blackwell and Sarah Ann to Joel Blackwell."
